The School

National Gems School was founded in 1968 with an objective to spread the light of knowledge and information to all segments of the society.

The Shaw Education Foundation was formed in 1993 and the journey of National Gems Higher Secondary School saw the breaking of a new dawn. It shifted to a new campus which now houses the Junior School that caters to the Pre-Primary (Lower Nursery to Kindergarten) and Primary (Class I to IV) sections. A phenomenal growth followed the affiliation of the school to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi, in 1995. This necessitated a bigger space to meet the growing demand. Hence, classes V to XII were relocated to a new campus with the infrastructure and facility required to make learning effective, meaningful and result oriented. Since then National Gems has been growing in its popularity and reputation in imparting quality education that is proved every year in its excellent results in both ICSE and ISC Examinations (Science and Commerce) along with strong discipline and values in every student. The School Management thus nurtures the vision of a holistic development to ensure that no individual is left behind in this highly competitive world with a fast changing global scenario.

Our Students

The students of our School essentially belong to Behala and its vicinity. They come from all segments of the Society and the entry point is Lower Nursery Class at the age of 2 years 6 Months. There are three Foundation Classes – Lower Nursery, Upper Nursery and Kindergarten – before the children enter the Primary level of their basic curriculum, leading them to their ten year course that prepares them for the Indian School Certificate Examination (ICSE), conducted by the Council for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education, New Delhi, the affiliating Board of the School.

Note :

  1. Students must reach school 10 minutes before the School hour. Late comers
    will not be allowed to enter once the gates are closed.
  2. Short hair is a compulsory part of the school uniform for boys.
  3. Shoes should be polished every day.
  4. Hair should be neatly combed.
  5. Only black ribbons / hair band can be used by girls having long hair.
  6. Girls are not to wear any kind of ‘make-up’, expensive / fancy jewellery, nail
    polish or mehendi.
  7. Boys are not permitted to wear jackets and sneakers.

Please Note :

  1. Parents / Guardians are advised to take the school uniform from Ganapati Enterprises (635/A, D. H. Road, Kolkata – 700034), the approved tailor of the School.
  2. A student will be sent back home if the uniform does not conform to the dress code as specified by the school.

Fees

  1. The payment of Fees can be made ONLINE through the School App., the School’s Website (WEBLOGIN) or at the Cash Counter of the Main Building following the schedule mentioned below. In case of Online Payment of Fees through the School App, Fees Receipts will be sent directly to the Registered E-mail ID. Please refer to details given in the Fees Book.
  2. Fees are charged from April to March of every session and must be paid on a bi-monthly basis.
  3. A late fine of Rs. 5/- per day will be charged if fees are paid after the mentioned date.
  4. If fees are outstanding for more than two months, the student’s name is liable to be struck off from the rolls.
  5. In case of loss of Fee Book, a duplicate Fee Book may be issued on payment of Rs. 100/- with a request letter.
  6. Guardians are requested not to handover the fees to any school staff.
  7. The Fee Book is to be filled in by parents and kept in good condition at all times. The same will have to be produced at the time of the enrolment for the next academic session.
  8. Fees once deposited will not be refunded under any circumstances.
  9. The decision of the Management in the fees structure is applicable for the session 2024 – 2025 and is final.
  10. Offline Fees Payment can be made as per office hours mentioned in the School Diary.

Identity Card & Report Card

  1. Every student must wear his / her Identity Card whether escorted or unescorted.
  2. Parents / Guardians who wish to have their wards leave school unescorted should inform the school in writing.
  3. A duplicate Identity Card will be issued on payment of Rs. 50/-. A coloured passport size recent photograph of the student in school uniform must be submitted. If the Identity Card is lost or spoiled, an application has to be submitted to the school along with a copy of the FIR lodged at the local P.S.
  4. A duplicate Report Card will be issued on payment of Rs. 50/-.

Discipline & Suspension

  1. Students are responsible to the school authorities for their conduct both in and
    outside the school premises.
  2. The following may result in the removal of a student from the school –
    • Irregular attendance
    • Unjustified or unexplained long absence
    • Gross violation of school rules and discipline.
    • Using objectionable words or language or misbehaviour of any kind.
    • Using unfair means in any examination or test.
    • Disobedience and disrespect towards any member of the staff.
    • Bad moral influence/fighting/bullying/carrying objectionable materials.

Achievements

CESC Power Quiz

On 25th April,2014, CESC Power Quiz was held in Calcutta club.The students of National Gems Higher Secondary School were declared as the 1st runners – up. The school was representeted by Aditya Narayan Sen, Pollock Mondal and Rajashri Nath.

Attendance & Punctuality

  1. Regular attendance is of utmost importance especially on the first and last day of each term. Any deviation in this regard will be treated as an infringement of school discipline.
  2. 80% attendance is a must for each term.
  3. A student must attend school in time.
    1. Students arriving after the commencement of the Opening Prayer will not be allowed to attend school for that day under all circumstances.
    2. Late arrival or early leave will result in the student not getting attendance for the day.
    3. Requests for early departure will not be entertained, except for an absolute emergency

Absence & Sickness

  1. Parents / Guardians should make an entry in the prescribed column printed in the School Diary stating the reason whenever a student is absent.
  2. A formal letter, along with appropriate Medical Documents, is necessary in case of sickness for more than three days.
  3. Students afflicted by infectious diseases or exposed to such diseases in their homes must complete the quarantine period. Before rejoining School a Fit Certificate from the Physician must be submitted, along with a forwarding letter.
  4. The Head of the Institution’s prior permission for leave of absence from school is essential if absence is anticipated.
  5. Students who are absent for many days without any information will have their names struck off the school rolls.

General

  1. It is mandatory to install the School App (National Gems Higher Secondary School) from the Google Playstore.
  2. Daily Attendance and Home Work of all students will be uploaded in the School App.
  3. An ailing child should not be sent to school.
  4. The school is not responsible for the loss of personal belongings. It is requested to see that students do not bring or wear valuables to school.
  5. Any correspondence with the school must have the name, class, section and admission number of the student for reference.
  6. Please do not phone the school on days when there is heavy rain, suspension of public transport or any other emergency. The school will function for those students who are present.
  7. Should a student be injured during class hours, the school will make every effort to contact the parent first. However, in case this is not possible, the school authorities will take the necessary and immediate measures.
  8. During the absence of a teacher from class, students must obey the Prefect /Monitor / Captain appointed to maintain good order.
  9. Students are reminded to address their teachers and all members of the staff, teaching and non-teaching with due respect and politeness.
  10. Fighting or any form of physical violence, bullying or use of bad language is strictly prohibited and will result in stern disciplinary action, such as detention / suspension / expulsion without any prior intimation to parents.
  11. No books, newspaper, periodicals or electronic gadget must be brought into the school premises without the Principal’s sanction. Students found with undesirable books or pictures in their possession or lending them to others are liable to be expelled from school.
  12. Bringing mobile phone, pen drives, CD to school is strictly prohibited. If such is found in the possession of any student it will be confiscated. Infringement of this rule may also lead to expulsion.
  13. Children will be given an opportunity to learn of the errors in his / her ways through ‘corrective measures’. It is not the intention of the school to penalize the parents, but to bring to their notice the unsatisfactory academic performance or conduct of their child, wherever and whenever this may be necessary, with a view to the welfare of the child.
  14. Promotion to the next higher class on TRIAL basis, on Re-Examination or Awarding of Grace Marks will not be allowed as per Council rules.

Protection Of School Property

  1. Loss of library books / damage of laboratory apparatus will result in a fine equivalent to loss or damage.
  2. Each class will be responsible for looking after all class property. Any breakage, defacements etc. will be charged to the child / class as the case may be

BHARAT SCOUTS & N.C.C

The School has Bharat Scouts and N.C.C. for students to develop better ability, courage, bravery and eagerness to serve society and the nation. Therefore the School expects parents to encourage their wards to join Bharat Scouts and N.C.C.

Students from class One upwards belong to four Houses. The House system enables the child to become a responsible member of the society through participation in games, sports and other co-curricular activities.

Public Examinations

The School prepares its students for the I.C.S.E. and I.S.C.Examinations of The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi.

A candidate may be withdrawn at any time prior to the commencement of the examination:

  • On account of illness of the candidate.
  • At the express written request of the parents / legal guardians of the candidate.

Withdrawals

  1. One calendar month’s notice, in writing, from the 1st day of the month or one month’s fees must be paid in lieu thereof, is required for the withdrawal of a student from the school.
  2. If the notice given is shorter than one month, the fees due on the first of the following month will be charged as well.
